Fabius, NY -- Dale Sweetland, the former Onondaga County Legislature chairman, will announce Thursday morning that he will run for the 25th Congressional District seat being vacated by James Walsh, R-Onondaga.
Sweetland, 59, who served in the county Legislature from 1994 to 2007, has scheduled a news conference at 10 a.m. at his home in Fabius.
Sweetland lost a Republican primary to Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney by 21 votes in September. Earlier this year, he was appointed as the Republican director of budget review for the county Legislature.
