25th District race draws national spotlight

So the Post Standard is a little late on this story...

The contest to succeed Walsh in the 25th Congressional District ranks No. 1 out of the 435 races in the House of Representatives, according to Chris Cillizza, a political blogger for The Post. "Rep. Jim Walsh's retirement gives Democrats a chance to continue to consolidate their death grip on the Northeast in the fall," Cillizza wrote, noting that Maffei was running again after almost upsetting Walsh in 2006.

But the ranking was based on the assumption that Democrats won't be weakened by a primary battle between Maffei and Syracuse Mayor Matt Driscoll.
"It looks like Syracuse Mayor Matt Driscoll won't run - a classical political Hamlet - and that decision should clear the Democratic field for Maffei," Cillizza wrote in a Feb. 15 post.
