DCCC Targets Walsh
Playing off the patriotic themes that will abound during the July 4 celebration, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) will be waging media and mass phone-calling campaigns accusing the GOP incumbents — all of whom have supported President George W. Bush’s Iraq war policies — of failing to provide sufficient support for members of the U.S. military.
“Next week, Republicans are going home to talk up their support for our nation’s troops and veterans. But, their constituents deserve to know that the Republican record on veterans is all talk and no action,” said DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen, a representative from Maryland, in a statement. “America’s troops and veterans deserve more than patriotic speeches this Independence Day.”
The DCCC has set up a new “action center” for the veterans issue and will be orchestrating pre-recorded “robocalls” to voters in the targeted districts. The organization also will e-mail 2 million targeted voters about the issue, Thornell said.
The committee will give seven Republicans the full treatment with radio ads: Reps. Robin Hayes of North Carolina; Joe Knollenberg of Michigan; Jon Porter of Nevada; James T. Walsh of New York; Don Young of Alaska; Shelly Moore Capito of West Virginia and Sam Graves of Missouri.
