House Condemns Surge

17 Republicans including Walsh joined all but two Democrats.

I've taken a lot of shots at Jim Walsh over the past year, but he was the only member of the New York Delegation with the courage to stand up to Bush on this issue. Of course, maybe he finally realized the people who put him in office live in Central New York not 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Yeah, I have been harsh too - but he did the right thing here. I think I will call his office to thank him, if for no other reason than to counteract any angry pro-surge calls.

I'm very happy about this as well, but I was left wondering something: In the debate before the vote, each member of Congress had five minutes of time to comment on this resolution. Did Walsh actually use his time? If so, what did he say? And if he yielded his time to someone else, who was it?

While I respect Walsh breaking ranks with the Republicans to do something right, I would be even more impressed if he actually explained to his colleagues on the house floor and his constituents why he thought this resolution was right.
