Maffei Congratulates Congressman Walsh on Election

November 17, 2006

(Syracuse, NY) - Although the race for the 25th Congressional District continues to tighten as absentee, military, affidavit, and emergency ballots are being counted in Onondaga and Wayne counties, Dan Maffei today officially congratulated Congressman Jim Walsh on his apparent victory.

"As we've said all along, it's important that every single vote be counted, and we've respected that process since election night," said Maffei. "However, it is becoming apparent that we will not be able to gain enough votes to change the outcome."
Since election night, Maffei has cut Congressman Walsh's lead by an estimated 1,000 votes.

"This process has been especially important given reports both nationally and locally of voter suppression activities. It's important that voters not be further disenfranchised," said Maffei Campaign Manager Michael Whyland, noting that in one case national Republicans were behind illegal and deceptive "robo" calls to voters in the 25th Congressional District. "We will be following up on these reports in an effort to protect the voters' rights in future elections."
