The pro-Walsh Argument

The argument for Walsh:

  • Personal characteristics:
  1. Walsh is a veteran who can do things freshman reps cannot.
  2. Walsh has delivered funds to the district and New York State.
  3. He is amiable.
  4. No controversies- his 'backyard is clean'.
  5. He keeps his local roots; comes home from Washington every weekend.
  • Iraq and Terrorism.
  1. Bush is doing the right thing.
  2. Bush's strategy is making slow but steady progress.
  3. We need to hang tuff on Iraq, Afghanistan, and North Korea.
  • The economy and taxes
  1. Syracuse's economy is the best in the state.
  2. The national economy is doing well.
  3. Lower taxes are the reason why the economy is better.
  4. UNY in particular needs lower taxes because state taxes are high.
  • Walsh is a moderate who does not always agree with Bush or the far right.
  1. Walsh argued against Bush on the recent terrorist 'torture' bill.
  2. He supports a raise in the minimum wage.
  3. He supports a guest worker program for immigrants.
If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.

I couldn't let the part pass about "voted against Bush on the recent terrorist torture bill." Of course, he talked a good game and got good press for standing up and SPEAKING against it, but when he turned around and actually VOTED FOR the "compromise" bill anyway, it was like no one in the press ever noticed it.

You forgot to mention that Maffei went to 3 ivy league schools and served under Rangle, Moynihan, and Bradley. For some reason Walsh sees all this as a negative, and likes to share these "secrets" as part of his platform.

Maffei went to Brown, and Columbia? What other skeletons does he have in the closet Mr. Congressman?

Anonymous #2 - when Walsh mentions Maffei's stelar resume its an act to portray himself as a common man going against an elitist. We are suppost to resent Maffei because of his ivy leage credentials and instead identify with former "apple picker" and "local man" Jim Walsh.

This is a very common Republican ruse, we have to learn to see it coming a mile away. Know your enemy.
