The Pushback

From the Maffei Campaign:

Jim Walsh is desperately trying to run from President Bush in his latest television commercial … but he can't hide from his real record!

A bizarre television commercial recently released by Congressman Jim Walsh claims the 18-year incumbent stood up to President Bush. A quick check of the facts, however, reveals a very different record.

Walsh Ad Says: "He opposed the Bush administration when they wanted to privatize Social Security, and he won."

Walsh wants the voters to think he stands up to George Bush when it comes to our seniors. If that were true, why did the Alliance for Retired Americans give him a rating of 0% in 2005!! (source: www.retiredamericans.org)

Why did he stand with President Bush in Greece, NY on May 24, 2005 when Bush announced his privatization scheme? (source: www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/05/20050524-3.html)

Why did he support the implementation of the final report of President Bush's Commission on Social Security, which recommended personal retirement accounts risking Social Security's long-term future? (HR 2590, Vote #273, 7/25/01)

And why did he vote for a $2.6 trillion budget conference report this year
that spent every single penny of our Social Security surplus??(HCR 95, Vote #149, 4/28/05)

Walsh Ad Says: "He opposed them when they wanted to cut nutrition programs, and he won."

Walsh wants voters to think he stood up to George Bush to protect children. If that's true, why did the Children's Defense Fund name him one of "the worst representatives for children" with a 0% rating in 2005? (source: The 2005 Children's Defense Fund Action Council Nonpartisan Congressional Scorecard)

The Children's Defense Fund said about Walsh and others who scored 0%: "As this 2005 Congressional Scorecard shows, many Members of Congress value the rich more than the poor; corporate and special interests more than mothers and children; and the gun industry more than child safety." (source: The 2005 Children's Defense Fund Action Council Nonpartisan Congressional Scorecard)

And finally, why in April 2005 did he support the fiscal year 2006 budget conference report which in part limited spending on discretionary programs including Head Start, child abuse prevention, and juvenile justice; cut $34.7 billion from programs with guaranteed funding for poor children including $10 billion from Medicaid; and allow for an additional $70billion in tax cuts?? (HCR 95, Vote #149, 4/28/05)

Walsh Ad Says: "He opposed them when they wanted to raise healthcare premiums on our veterans, and he won."

Walsh in this and previous ads wants the voters to think veterans are better off under his leadership as Chairman, Military Quality of Life, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Subcommittee on Appropriations. But yet he voted to cut veterans' healthcare by $13.5 billion over five years (while giving huge tax breaks to the wealthy) in the 2006 budget conference report. (HCR 95, Vote #149, 4/28/05)

Maybe that's why the Disabled American Veterans Association give him a 0% rating in 2003, 2004, and 2005. (source: www.dav.org)

Walsh Ad Says: "He stands up to the president and his party. He stands up for Central New York."

Really? Then why does hillmonitor.com show that Jim Walsh has voted with President Bush and the House Republican leadership more than 9 out of 10 times since 2000? (source: www.hillmonitor.com for totals from 107th, 108th and 109th
Congresses)

On November 7, let's really stand up to the President and Jim Walsh by electing Dan Maffei for Congress.

Want to know what dear old Jimmy "The only support that's ever mattered to me is yours,” Walsh voted for yesterday?

I sent this message to FLDFA and Dan Maffei as well.

For a guy who "stands up to Bush," Walsh certainly seems to agree with Dubya on far too many IMPORTANT things!
