It's a Dead Heat! 44-40!!

Dan Maffei's new polling just came out and it's bad news for Walsh:

With an increasingly toxic political environment for Republicans in New York, a new poll shows challenger Dan Maffei in a statistical dead heat (44 percent to 40 percent) with incumbent Congressman James Walsh in the race for New York's 25th Congressional district.

Most troubling to the embattled Republican is that his re-elect has fallen to a shockingly low 34 percent with a full 30 percent of voters saying they will affirmatively vote against Walsh regardless of his opponent.

"Jim Walsh has never been held accountable for his record of voting lock-step with George Bush. I'm exposing that record, and voters are angry about what he's been doing," Maffei said. "Once voters learn the truth about how he votes, his support evaporates."

"Voters are smart they already knew that George Bush and the Republican congress were hurting upstate New York, and now they are learning that Jim Walsh just goes along,"Maffei continued.

The poll, conducted September 20-21 by Pete Brodnitz of the Benenson Strategy Group, confirmed a March poll that showed Jim Walsh to be highly vulnerable in the current election environment. Since March, Maffei has aggressively campaigned throughout the 25th District, recently airing nearly four weeks of unanswered television advertising that exposed Walsh¹s record of raising his own pay and voting with George Bush 9 out of 10 times.

Brodnitz, one of the nation's leading Democratic pollsters, has Provided highly accurately polling research in races throughout the nation, Including last November's Democratic victory in Virginia's gubernatorial election And in Sen. Clinton's 2000 Senate campaign while working at Penn, Schoen & Berlantz.

While President Bush's favorability ratings remain dismal (62 percent of the district's voters view him unfavorably, 49 percent strongly unfavorable), Democrats are running extremely well in the district. Attorney General and Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Eliot Spitzer enjoys a 76 percent positive rating and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton enjoys a 63 percent positive rating.

and here is the summary.

Walsh is in trouble, from the outset of this campaign, Walsh's support was a mile wide but an inch deep and he has a glass jaw on the issues. And best of all his highly unskilled campaign team has been allowing him to lie on the record, make bad ads and hit his opponent with all the force of a feather pillow.

I was hoping to see some close numbers but this is much better than I'd expected. Even though it's a commissioned poll, it's still excellent news. I have to believe that if the Walsh people had good numbers they'd have published them by now.

The Republican's have spent the entire year throwing garbage against the wall to see what sticks. Flag burning, gay maraige, scaring the voters about terrorists, torture and abusing hispanic immigrants. Hm, Karl Rove and the his evil legions contemplate, how can we further debase and wreck this country in order to maintain our power and wealth?

Meanwhile, our own idiot savant Jim Walsh squeeks "pork! pork!" whenever asked why the anyone in their right mind should vote from him. Oh, he has his supporters amoung the black helicopter crew who listen to Rush Limbaugh, and naturally, anyone with a stake in the wealth establishment requires his support. But for the average votor, Walsh's PORK is his one and only claim to fame. "Pork! pork! I bring the pork!" Walsh would have our vote in return for stealing cash from our children's piggie banks.

Today, finally, we have an actual leader who has stepped up to the plate. Dan Maffei could rid us of "pork! Pork!" Walsh and give real, true representation to CNY.

The poll cited was comisioned by Maffei. While encouraging, its realy message is only one thing. FIGHT HARDER. The right wing hate machine will do bloody well every low down and dirty thing they can to keep their "pork! pork!" man Walsh in office. Democrats- FIGHT HARDER!

unrelated but disturbing: I was driving today past 690 exit onto Teal and noticed that the Maffei lawn signs have been plastered with a yellow stripe across Dan's name. The stripe says something along the lines of "illegally placed sign" (I was driving, so hard to read). Noticed such marks were not on other signs at the intersection. Saw one later at the corner of James and Thompson. Walsh's folks wouldn't be getting this dirty this early, would they? I hope the Maffei Campaign calls him out on this.

Too much pork is bad for your health.

As for the Maffei signs, I'll check the ones on Onondaga Hill. If they are in the same condition as the ones the last commenter's were in, I'll email some pictures to Mr. Maffei.

Writer as the one that pointed out the signs (just realized how to put a name down)...while I do think you should check out other locations, seeing the same thing in two different places (690 exit at Teal and corner of James and Thompson) indicates more than one random event. Also, while the one at James is by itself, the one at 690 is with ones for Spitzer and Cumo, and they are not covered up. Watcher, look into this!

In the last presidential election, signs supporting John Kerry were also defaced. In some southern states, signs were actually burned and people's homes were vandalized.

These actions are performed by violent fanatics driven to rage by right wing hate radio and television. These people are essentially terrorists who work against democracy. They exist in Syracuse, they are not necessarily beneficiaries of the Republican policies that benefit the rich, but more likely malcontents looking for a cause.

The question is what to do?

1. Catch them in the act by posting a 24 hour volunteer vigil at the signposts at Teal ave. This would have the added benefit of attracting media attention (although clear channel and fox will probably take the opportunity to ridicule the effert).

2. Whenever this happens, replace the sign IMMEDIATELY. There may be many signs that need to be replaced. It may be on a daily basis. But the point is to show resistance and strength against the bullying Walsh machine.

3. Alert Maffei's campaign, perhaps they will chalange Walsh to call his dogs off and denouce these thugs.

Sad to say, but this negativity is just the beginning, if Maffei's polls are correct. The rats will fight hardest when they are trapped in a corner.
