Days after the Syracuse Post Standard and The Los Angeles Times reported that the Jim Walsh for Congress campaign distributed literature announcing the endorsement of the Service Employees International Union, Local 200United, the statewide union announced today their endorsement of Dan Maffei for Congress.
"Contrary to whatever false piece of campaign literature is circulating around Central New York, Dan Maffei has received SEIU 200United's endorsement," said Jerry Dennis, President, SEIU 200United. "This country is heading in the wrong direction and we need a Congressman who doesn't simply rubber stamp the George Bush agenda. Jim Walsh is wrong on our issues. He voted against a minimum wage increase. He voted for Bush budgets that cut education funding and Medicare and he supported George Bush's attempt to privatize Social Security. We need new leadership in Congress, and I strongly support Dan Maffei's candidacy."
The Service Employees International Union, Local 200United represent 12,000 members in New York State. The largest facility in the 25th Congressional District, Syracuse University, consists of 800 members.
"I am truly honored and incredibly humbled by the amount of support my campaign has received from the women and men of Central New York's labor community," said Dan Maffei. "I want to thank President Jerry Dennis, Joe Rossi and Mike Nesci for their support and leadership."
