Maffei Hits Walsh on Stem Cells

Dan Maffei let Jim Walsh have it for his embarrassing vote against hope and stem cell research:

"I am disappointed President Bush vetoed a bi-partisan piece of legislation being supported by the vast majority of Americans including conservative Senator Orin Hatch, Senator John McCain and Nancy Reagan. I am more disappointed that Jim Walsh once again voted with George Bush, showing that he acts as a rubberstamp for the Bush Administration.

"The stem-cell research in this bill would have provided a unique opportunity to help find cures for life threatening diseases like cancer, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's that devastate our families. In Central New York, it's doubly tragic because stem-cell research might help boost our economy. Central New York could be a healthcare corridor. Many of our research hospitals could be hiring our graduates from places like SUNY Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse University and Rochester Institute of Technology and pharmaceutical companies should be locating to this area, taking advantage of our resources and creating jobs. Central New York should be leading the nation in finding cures for our worst diseases, but we are being held back by the wrong priorities set in Washington. Mr. Walsh has shown that he shares those Washington priorities instead of Central New York's priorities. We need change."
