Does This Taste Funny to You?

Another blast from the past, here are a few choice votes Jim Walsh made about three years ago while "Making appropriations for Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration":

Well, I certainly feel my food is safe with Jim Walsh representing in Washington!

Unrelated... isn't it time to take Capanna off the sidebar?

Walsh Watcher said pork is a bad issue to fight Walsh on , as it is playing on Walsh's turf. Granted but still- if I was to knock on someones door and be asked about pork- I'd like to have something to say about it..

We know Walsh is not all that powerful in the House after 18 years. We also know he has not brough to 'cuse big time bucks.. to the best of my knowlege he has brought us small change.

So I think it would be useful to quantify that somehow. In the sense of having a prepared argument ready to go. Basically I'd like to be able to say just how much less Walsh has brough to CNY compared to your average 18 year representative, and how much less powerful (in terms of chairmanships and the like) Walsh is then your average 18 years rep.

And then after those points are made go into the more friendly turf of how Walsh is 85% in agreement with Bush and how Maffei is a much more reasonable human being etc.

Also if it turns out that Walsh realy has brought more Pork home then your average 18 your rep- I would know to stay of that subject completely and focus on the Bush connection.

(But I think it goes without saying that Syracuse's economy stinks and any pork Walsh has brought home has not done much.)

anonymous @ 8:50,

Unfortunately that is way more research than I am willing to conduct.

The problem with pork is that it is very good for incumbents. Whether they have brought in a lot or a little, it is something that can point to and say, "look, I did this." Talking about or trying to attack them on it, always comes back to the point of, they did it. It's just not an issue to win on.

Watcher- your blog is a wonderful resource and quite enough of a contribution- I did not mean to suggest for you to do the research. I throw the idea out there to get a response and feedback.

I see what you mean about Pork being a bad issue but I still would love to have a concrete example in our arsenal to point out how Walsh is weak on the Hill and Washington, and how he has not done allot for Syracuse. I mean, its not a good defense to his argument that he is a senior veteran to ignore the point. Maybe I'll do some surfing and post whatever conclusions I can draw..
