Dan Maffei's Numbers are In

Here are Dan Maffei's fundraising numbers for the quarter:
  • Raised approx. $125,000
  • Spent approx. $100,000
  • Has $206,722 Cash on Hand

Dan's biggest expenses this quarter were on his media buy and polling. All in all another strong and consistent showing for Dan and now with Paloma out of the race, fundraising should get even easier.

did Dan fall into Walsh's trap? Walsh bought ads cause he can afford it. Dan buys them when he can't. Now, Dan's numbers look weak. Yet I doubt the ads got Dan very far (god knows the sub-standard didn't do much on them). If Dan doesn't hit 1M, he can't win. But Walsh gets him to spend 100k

Dan Maffei's ad buy was actually pretty small, it was only a $20,000 dollar buy.

I think Maffei's ads got him much further than you suggest. Since he aired those ads:

1) The national ranking of the campaign went up (National Journal).

2) The DCCC featured Walsh as the Rubber Stamp of the week.

3) DCCC Chairman Rahm Emanuel came to the district for Maffei and pledgde continued support.

4) The Sub Standard covered the ads, as did about a dozen other local and national news organizations.

5) Maffei's only remaining primary
opponent dropped out.

6) Walsh didn't get a darn thing out of his ads except nearly $200,000 in expenditures, and even MORE focus on his race.

7) And, finally, Dan proved he's a Democrat willing to stand up to a Republican and go toe-to-toe.

I'd say that ad buy was a bargain.

Actually orangeman, Dan Maffei's ads didn't air until after the new National Journal rankings came out.
